Flash Player Instructions: Install, turn-on, unblock
The Intelligent Flatplan currently uses the Adobe Flash player browser plugin to render flatplans.
Step 1: Install
Depending on your operating system and preferred browser brand, your browser may feature a fully integrated version of the Flash player or, alternatively, it may need to be downloaded and installed. Adobe’s Flash player help page here provides detailed instructions for Explorer, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera which explain whether the player is integrated or requires installation.
Step 2: Turn on
Recently, to provide users with more control over Flash content, browser suppliers typically set the Flash player to ‘off’ when a browser is first installed or updated. Again, Adobe’s Flash player help page here provides detailed instructions for Explorer, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera which explain how to turn on, or ‘enable’ the player.
Step 3: Unblock
Finally, to add an extra layer of user control, some browsers require the user to ‘unblock’ the player for each website domain they visit. At the time of writing Adobe’s instructions do not seem to include information on unblocking Flash. Searching ‘unblock Flash in XXX browser’ typically finds the answer.
As an example, the web page here shows how to unblock a specific domain in Microsoft Edge.
NOTE: Adobe’s Flash player help page features a ‘Check Now’ button and a Flash animation which identify if Flash is installed and turned on. In some circumstances, these tests suggest Flash is not installed or turned on, when the settings clearly show it is. This is normally caused if the player has been installed and turned on but not unblocked for the domain.
NOTE: The Intelligent Flatplan’s development team has designed a proof-of-concept version of the system which operates without the Flash player. This pure HTML version of the Intelligent Flatplan is scheduled for launch in Q4 2017. This will future-proof the system following Adobe’s announcement that support for the Flash player will end in 2020.
